I consider myself to be extremely lucky to have been born in Leamington, and apart from a couple of brief episodes, have lived in and around here all of my life.
One of my fondest memories is of the Leamington Illuminations, they were magical, and to a child were the closest I’d get to ‘Disneyland’
I can still recall the excitement of visiting the gardens at night, the colours and the smells.
As train spotters, hanging around Leamington Station, we kids would find ourselves directing visitors from Birmingham and elswhere to the gardens.
Sadly, the ‘Lights of Leamington,’ closed for the last time on Sunday the 8th of October in 1961 due to costs and other issues. There have been attempts to revive them but it seems unlikely they will return.
These images are my way of re-living a time gone by, and showing our beautiful Jephson Gardens in a unique light.
